How to stay motivated in work and life

Hello life-lovers

Living in this digital age is a boon and a bane. I for one never realized that until I graduated. Quite honestly I used to hear crickets when I used to open my gmail account for the first 8 years since I signed up. Now you can find me gulping down cups of coffee while replying to 10 emails a min in some Starbucks in Dubai. No! There is nothing glamorous about that! I often get DMs from a lot of people who follow me on social media questioning about my work with exclamations like - "Oh My God! You are so lucky to live in such a fab city" "You are always on staycations babe ... I am jealous" "You get to experience so many finer things...Man! I wish I was you right now! Lucky You!!"

Uh! No! I am a huge believer of hardwork not luck. We all work. But the major difference lies in how we work. Some of us work for the sake of fulfilling our goals and most of us just work to get through the day. My work involves - content curation, media relations, public relations, photography and filmmaking. When I am not doing one of these I am probably watching a detective series on Netflix.

As wonderful as my work seems on Instagram ...The real questions remain .. Is this for real?

Yes I love the latte for real... I stay in a wonderful hotels for real.. and I get to experience many things for real.. But what you dont see is the immense amount of hardwork surrounding it. In my line of work its easy to experience a roller coaster of emotions especially because you are doing multiple work while trying to keep your emotional balance intact. I might be on a staycation but I can guarantee you I am up till 3 answering client emails and editing pictures. And I am not ashamed to admit that I face emotional turmoil every now and then. My life is not as perfect as my Instagram. Let me break down some of the problems I face

- Social Media exhausts me. Its ironic cause I earn from social media.
- I hate attending parties and dressing up.
- Even on a vacation I am working atleast 5 hours a day
- I face rejection on a daily basis. No! I am not even kidding! If I had a dime for everytime I got a rejection letter I could actually go to my dream city - Paris & New York.
- I face negativity, fat shamming, internet trolls and racists on a regular basis.

Being motivated during such scenarios is a very hard task. In the beginning of my entrepreneurship I actually almost gave up. Then I took couple of  hours off to just sit in the washroom floor of my house to cry my heart out and have a talk with myself. Once I was done with it I was motivated than ever.

So what do I do to keep myself motivated?

- I have a vision book. I read through the pages when I feel low
- I organize stuff properly to avoid such scenario again
- I binge watch inspirational vlogs and talks
- I still take some hours to just breathe and give a pep talk to myself

This whole topic actually motivated me to ask other people's opinion on the same matter. I have been following the work of Vaishali and Vishal for quite some time now. This is what they had to share -

"I leave the phone aside and choose the right time to work. No wonder how much of a late night work lover you are, your body is going to thank you later. Try getting up by 9 am max, it makes you feel productive. Sleep by 12 or 1 if work demands that much of staying up."  - Vaishal Bakshi , Editor - Conditions Apply

" You can focus on work management.
- Listing down each and every thing you need to do immediately, in short term and long term.
- Narrowing down the to-do list as per priority.- Choosing easier task first whenever possible. It motivates to take on better challenges." -  Vishal Dahiya, Film-maker

Sweeha , Nitika and Vijay constantly win my heart over with their brilliant coping mechanism and work tatics!

"First things first, punctuality is the key. Ask questions. Stay curious all the time. Have a plan B, you never know when you'll need it. Research will help bring drastic changes. Lastly, remind yourself why you started doing what you're doing in the first place. Life truly is too short, so do what you do best and don't forget to kick ass while doing it!" - Vijay Khurana , Graphic Designer.

"Burn outs can be dreadful, and when it does happen...You need to find the passion within to fight it off. Most importantly, we don't live for work, we work to live." - Sweeha Panwar, Associate Consultant at Microsoft

"I think it's important to give yourself few minutes just to focus on work.. like for me few minutes of meditation and workout helps me get through the day and I get a lot better good night sleep. Workout or meditation or yoga helps with focus and makes you feel good from inside too." - Nitika Singh Chaudhry

Krishna is one among my closest friends. Over the years he has become a pillar of support and his outlook towards life always keep me amazed.

Dad's death changed me as a person and it pushed me into taking up responsibilities that I never would have taken, after the dust settled I was an entirely different person, a stronger one. After that I started loving stressful situations that pushes my buttons, I realized things like this either makes you or breaks you. I chose the former." - Krishna Kumar, Student.

I have known Shagun for 5 years and her sense of humor and strength is as wonderful as ever!

"So, when it comes to an ambitious woman like me who is so clear in her head about what she wants, things can get tricky. You tend to develop a tendency of becoming a workaholic every now and then. That, when stretched over a period of time not only builds up frustration in you but also takes a toll on your relationships; if at all you choose to get into any.
So, the work that you absolutely loved and what gave you immense satisfaction becomes a reason of your unhappiness. The biggest and almost indispensable element in your life is Work-Life Balance.
They say, you can't have the best of both worlds. Which is okay as long as at least you getting to have both worlds in your life. You need to treat your mind and body with respect. The more you do things that make you feel good (apart from working) and include some exercises (if not turn into a gym freak) will really help you give your best at work. Moreover, what's most important to up your game is Productivity. And that can only be achieved when you have that imperative element of Work-Life Balance." - Shagun Rishi

And saving the best for the last! Nehan with her undying faith.

"I find motivation in my faith when things get rough. Whenever I start comparing my journey with other people, I remind myself that my Lord has made me different with my own special gifts, skills & qualities that is unique only to me. I have experienced that even when all doors are closed, my Lord opens up a new door just for me. All He asks of me is hard work, action & effort on my part. That's all we can do. Keep doing what you have to do and the rest will play out on its own, even if it takes long to get there or through ways you never imagined." - Nehan , Fashion Blogger
